Dear readers,
Today I’d like to write a bit about one of the biggest civilization disease– depression. According to the definition - depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. It’s a dangerous disease that affects one in 15 people per year and one in six people experiences depression in their life. Unfortunately these statistics are rising and rising. Depression usually affect on youth, but it can also appear in any time of sb’s life. Statistics also say that women get sick twice times more often than men. But how to recognize depression? The most popular symptoms include: feeling sad or having a depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, changes in appetite — weight loss or gain unrelated to dieting, trouble sleeping or sleeping too much, loss of energy or increased fatigue, increase in purposeless physical activity or slowed movements or speech, feeling worthless or guilty, difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions and thoughts of death or suicide. To recognize depression symptoms should last at least two weeks and must represent a change in your previous level of functioning. In the next blog I’ll write about treatment options. I hope you were interested in the topic. See you soon and have a nice day. <3

It would be interesting to know why the statistics are going up: are there really so many more cases or the number of people suffering is calculated differently?
