Dear readers,
Since we are on the subject of anorexia, I’d like to write about an unpopular piece of that disorder - pregorexia. Pregorexia is an eating disorder during pregnancy. This disease is characterized by anxiety of gaining weight during pregnancy - which is natural for fetal development. Pregorexia is not a typical medical term, but a term given by the media. There are some warning signals like excessive or compulsive exercise, obsessive calorie counting, intense distress about gaining weight, avoid going to doctor’s appointments or feel disconnected from the baby growing inside them. Pregorexia is a special disorder, because it brings results in 2 people. Weight loss in pregnancy, fetal development problems, electrolyte abnormalities, increased risk of prolonged labor or increased risk of miscarriage are just a few of pregorexia’s consequences. As pregorexia is a branch of anorexia, it’s usually treated similar. I encourage you to read previous posts (especially about anorexia) and see you in the next blog.

Isn't this disorder linked more to the mother's rejection of pregnancy and the baby than to typical causes of anorexia?
